About
David is presently contracted to Wood Group, Staines in the role of Lead Coatings and Insulation Consultant for the BP Tortue subsea gas pipeline project, off the coast of West Africa. He has also worked on the Shah Deniz 2 Gas pipeline project for BP, as well as providing technical coatings support and coating specifications for a variety of marine and subsea pipeline coating projects.
As Lead Coatings Consultant he provides Technical support for all coatings related matters, including all pipeline surface preparation and coating processes to include - Wet Insulation: IMPU, MLPP (and IMPP Field Joint Coatings), Syntatic Silicone, 3LPP & 3LPE linepipe coating and appropriate FJC (HSS & Tape wrap etc). Pipe line Bouyancy to include Distributed buoyancy (Export lines) and buckle arrestors (Infield Flow Line), and Insulation shrouds as well as Composite Ducting protection of Unbilicals and Flying leads.
Review of Specification documentation and suppliers coatings and insulation processes, PQT's, PPT's and ITP's in line with Client technical specifications and requirements. He also provides on site attendance and witness activities, to ensure conformance with all aspects of company procedures and policies are adhered to.
David is a versatile, innovative, self-sustaining, accurate and practical problem solver, who possesses an excellent theoretical and practical knowledge in the field marine & protective coatings and affiliated technologies, covering (but not limited to): corrosion, corrosion prevention, surface preparation, paint application, material selection, coating performance evaluations, failure analysis, intumescent coatings (passive fire protection), fouling and fouling prevention (including application of Fouling release coatings).
David was employed by a major coatings manufacturer for the some 20 + years, initially as Laboratory Manager and for the later 13 years held the position of Technical Manager, responsible for the preparation and overseeing of technical specifications for the Marine, Protective, Industrial (Heavy Indusrty),Oil & Gas, Wind & Power Generation as well as Yacht (incl. Super Yacht) sectors of the market as well as for all other functions of a very busy technical department. The last 6 years of his previous employment had been as Technical Manager / Special Projects Manager for all UK Ministry of Defence projects as well as for a long term through life support project with the UK Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA).
David is fully conversant with the lastest test methods and inspection procedures for a host of national and international standard institutions - including (but not limited to): BSI, EN, ISO, ASTM, AFNOR, NORSOK, Saudi Aramco, Sabic, DEF Stan and Highways Standards to name but a few.
His practical hands-on approach to problem solving and inovation has served many companies well, and resulted in him being chosen as a reliable, "safe pair of hands" with which to entrust major, high profile projects to.
